Preparation & Leak Tests in Atlanta

Have a Leak? Try These Tests

An unexplained water bill increase, a moving water meter when fixtures are off, recurring damp areas, a running toilet, or unusual pool water loss warrants a closer look. DIY leak tests can help determine whether water is being lost and whether the likely cause is a visible fixture problem or normal pool evaporation.

These checks can’t pinpoint a hidden plumbing leak behind a wall, beneath a slab, or along an underground service line. With more than 40 years of industry experience, we use non-invasive methods to locate concealed water and sewer leaks.

Start with the checks below. If water loss continues without a visible source, call (404) 620-4230 to discuss professional leak detection.

Choose the Right DIY Leak Test

Each test answers a different question. Use the result as a starting point, not as proof of the leak’s location.

Preparation & Leak Tests include:

  • The meter test: Checks whether the water meter registers flow while household and outdoor water uses are off.
  • The bucket test: Compares pool water loss with water loss from a container exposed to similar conditions.
  • The swimming pool loss calculator: Estimates the volume of water lost based on pool dimensions and measured level changes.
  • Home leak detection: Covers visible checks of toilets, fixtures, appliances, exposed connections, irrigation components, and damp areas.

What Your Test Results Can Tell You

A positive meter test indicates unexplained flow, but it doesn’t reveal whether the source is a toilet, appliance connection, irrigation system, interior pipe, or service line. If a pool loses more water than the bucket, a leak may be more likely than evaporation alone. That result won’t show whether the problem involves the pool shell, fittings, equipment, or underground plumbing.

Professional investigation becomes appropriate when:

  • Water loss continues after accessible fixtures have been checked.
  • The suspected source is behind a wall, beneath flooring, under a slab, or underground.
  • Pool loss exceeds bucket loss under comparable conditions.
  • Results conflict or change without an identifiable reason.

Don’t open walls, cut flooring, excavate the yard, or dismantle pool equipment simply to search for the source. We focus on locating leaks rather than completing the resulting repairs. Following the Leak Detection Without Destruction™ principle, we investigate hidden water loss without causing unnecessary property damage.

"I could not be happier with the service I received!"
“I could not be happier with the service I received from the South Atlanta branch of this company. Cliff was the technician. He located the leak quickly, outlined a one square foot area where the leak most likely was, and correctly estimated the depth. Very happy with this company's service. Thanks!”
